Early this morning I was on Facebook going through one of my creative groups looking for ideas … in one of the groups, someone asked for a dump of scriptures and encouraging self-talk graphics. I always love the idea of positive and uplifting things so I started going through the different things that individuals in the group had shared … I came across one that read “Waymaker” and then it read Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, and Light in the Darkness. The phrase stuck with me so I decided to read the scripture reference that was listed on the graphic in Isaiah 42:16.
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
During the 16th and 17th centuries, a servant would be sent ahead on a journey to prepare the way for those that would follow. They would make sure the road that was to be traveled was in good repair, if away was blocked the way maker would clear the path making the journey possible. This is who our Savior is.
Jesus is so many things to all of us. He is the Savior. He is the Redeemer. He is Jehovah. He is the Shepherd. He is the Light. He is our Advocate with the Father. He is the Lamb of God. He is the Deliverer. He is the Waymaker.
Jesus Christ prepared the path for each of us, He leads us down the paths that we may not have known. He made the path possible for each of us to safely travel. He set the example for us to know which direction to go. He has given us the tools to be waymakers in our own lives. As we try to follow the guides that Chris has given us, this is one I am going to be focusing on.
We can prepare the path for others through missionary work, but we can be waymakers in our own homes. As a mother, we help prepare the way for our children. We experience certain things and then share what we have learned with our children. We can guide them down the path that leads to our Father in Heaven.
May each of follow the path our Savior set and be waymakers for those that will follow behind.
