This time of year is one of joy, peace, and anticipation. Or at least it is for many individuals, yet for others, it is a time of loneliness, exhaustion, and depression. As a neurodivergent individual, I try so hard to wear a happy face, but sometimes it becomes a bit overwhelming and sometimes the emptiness consumes. This past week has been a time where the depression is taking over, and I feel as if I have a big empty hole inside of myself. Every morning I get up and I paint on a happy face for the rest of the world to see and try to push the darkness down low.
You might wonder why I am sharing this on such a public canvas. I am sharing this because I have a feeling I am not the only one who feels this way. I suspect that some of the individuals reading this feel similarly. Is that you? If so, know that you are not alone.
No matter the reason you feel the way you do, loss of a family member, financial struggles, family issues, or for no specific reason at all – it will be okay.
Remember, that no matter what the depression is telling you, you are NOT alone. You are NOT worthless. You MATTER. And even if it doesn’t feel like it, you WILL be okay. Take a moment and reach out to someone, anyone and let them know how you are feeling. If you truly do feel alone … there is one individual who is always there – our Savior, Jesus Christ. Let Him remind you of who you truly are. Let Him lift you up and remind you of all you are worth. Let Him carry the load. Let Him take the load from you and bare you up.
